Monday, December 9 SOMEONE GIVES SONGS: DEBORAH Judges 5 This ‘someone who gives songs’, is giving a song of praise to ‘someone very special’. This song is a song of thankfulness to the Lord for delivering the army of Sisera into their hands. You’ll have to read Judges 4 as well, to get the whole story. In verse two of chapter five, it says…when the people willingly offer themselves - praise the Lord!” We, today, need to give up ourselves to the Lord. When we do, and His fullness fills our hearts, we will want to sing and give praises to the Lord, as Deborah did. (Judges 5:3 – I will sing to the Lord, I will sing: I will make music to the Lord, the God of Israel.) Judges 5:10 – The word ‘white’ means to dazzle. The ‘you’ Deborah is referring to is all those who are out just being ‘religious’ and trying to dazzle the world by showing how mighty they are. They are full of pride. They need to take heed to those along the road, singing and reciting the righteous acts of the Lord, and realize His greatness, and not their own. Judges 5:12 – “Wake up, wake up, Deborah! Wake up, wake up, break out in song…”. ‘Wake up’ is stated four times! It’s showing the importance to get up and get going for the Lord. Lift Him up in song! He deserves all praise! Judges 5:23 - “Curse meroz” said the angel of the Lord. “Curse its people bitterly, because they did not come to help the Lord, to help the Lord against the mighty”. This verse states fairly clearly that God is also a judging God. He curses those who are not on His side. We need to take Him more seriously and put our lives into His hands, or we too, will be cursed. Judges 5:24-30 – This talks of Jael, most blessed of woman, the wife of Heber the Kenite, who killed Sisera by pounding a tent peg through his temples into the ground. Jael was on the side of the Lord, but Sisera was the enemy. He was punished and cursed, as God had spoken. Judges 5:31 - “So may all your enemies perish, O Lord! But may they who love you be like the sun when it rises in strength. Then the land had peace for forty years.” God will judge, punish and triumph in the end. The enemies of the Lord will be cursed, and perish, but if you love the Lord, you will rise up, like the sun, and shine forth the beauteous light of the Lord. Praise the Lord, and give song, and you will have true peace the rest of your life, knowing someone very special. ~ Jill Krauser
